History

2008: Prof. Irina Smirnova is the new Head of the Institute of Thermal Separation Processes, Hamburg University of Technology, Germany.

2010: Start of collaboration with BASF Polyurethanes for development of organic aerogel insulation panels leading to the product premiere of SLENTITE (2013). The product is now entering its market preparation phase (2016).

2012: Inauguration of the first conference purely focused on aerogels titled, “International Seminar on Aerogels: Properties-Manufacture-Applications”. The conference is held biannually in Europe with Prof. Smirnova as the Chair.

2015: Start of the EU project NANOHYBRIDS, “New generation of nano-porous organic and hybrid aerogels for industrial applications: from laboratory to pilot scale production”. The project is funded by the EU’s Framework Program for Research and Innovation Horizon 2020 Call (H2020-NMP-PILOTS-2015) bringing together 12 research institutes and industry partners from France, Germany, Greece, Russia, Sweden, Turkey and the UK.

2017: Constitution of Aerogelex as a competence center dedicated to aerogel prototyping and technology development.
